Global Rossie Day – Postponed to 5th July
Roscommon …or as we sometimes say Ros Com On! Well June 21st is a battle cry to people of Roscommon by birth (or indeed nearby hospital), by ancestry or by affiliation. We want you all to join us in one on-line feast of Roscommon at 2pm Roscommon time for approximately two hours of a celebration of what is a taste of how amazing this County is. www.roscommonbound.ie will be the kick off if you want to join us on this journey – take a look at what we have, who we have and why you are so lucky to be connected to this great County.
Roscommon Bound… A Global Rossie Strategy was launched last December by Minister Paschal Donoghue whose mother hails from Roscommon. This was only the start of a really enthusiastic, ambitious effort to connect people from Roscommon all over the world. Little did we know in December how important this would become.
Roll forward to March 2020 and Covid 19 puts a stop to everything we consider “normal” – the chance to meet up, the chance to return home for the weekend, the chance to fly home for Summer holidays or indeed the chance to fly to family who have settled elsewhere.
We hear from people all around the world of how they miss the chance to come home and what better way to feel like home than an online show on all Roscommon Bound social media channels of special moments in Roscommon sport, festivals, music and culture. Thrown into the mix will be drive through some of our villages and towns, a stop off for a chat with some local business and local characters before being carried away with some great Roscommon music from Gatehouse, Roscommon People by Fintan Donnelly and many more.
We will hear from some of our Rossies away from home and indeed give people at home a chance to say hello and more to their families away.
Summer wouldn’t normally be Summer without the primrose and blue dreaming of glory(and indeed achieving it!) so we will catch up with some sporting legends and look back on great moments in various sporting moments.
Roscommon Bound linkedin page, set up in November 2019 now has almost 1,000 members from Dubai to Sydney to New York to Galway to Boston and Germany. We share news stories of achievements of our Roscommon people from Athleague to Arigna, Rooskey to Roscommon and Ballaghaderreen to Ballyforan.
We have now also set up Roscommon Bound on Facebook and Instagram and we would love you to share these pages to your friends and family. Feel free to send us on some images, videos or positive Roscommon stories so we can share to the rest of the world by emailing us on roscommonbound@roscommoncoco.ie or via social media using the #FortheloveofRos
